Il cantico dei cantici per lingua madre

Cantu de tutti li canti / cuntu de tutti gli cunti / vasame cu tutti li vasi de tutta la vucca toa…

These are the beginning words of “Il Cantico dei cantici per lingua madre”, a rewrite (by poet and playwright Fabio Tolledi) in new salentine language of one of the most secret and mysterious texts of the sapiential tradition (the “Canticle of Canticles”).

This text sensuality and sweetness will be performed on the February 16th at 8 p.m. at Teatro Paisiello, by Astràgali Teatro and Ensemble Terra d'Otranto. On this occasion, words are filtered through the actresses’ female voices and merge live music played by ancient music instruments, such as viola, theorbo, baroque guitar and violin.

This canticle, which is contained in the Jewish and Christian Bible, is an infinite love song that a two lovers dedicate to each-other, “an absolute song of love and knowledge”; its name - Shir hashirim in Hebrew and Canticum canticorum in Latin – expresses its essence through its own name, its being the most sublime of all canticles, its resting in heavens.

On stage: Lenia Gadaleta and Roberta Quarta

and music masters Doriano Longo, Luca Tarantino, Pierluigi Ostuni and Maurizio Lillo.
