VEILS

A scene where three women’s stories intertwine. Veils, voilà, unveil and reveal.

Myopia is the first metaphor of a look that is, at the same time, offside and out of time.

This myopia belongs to the soul, to the story, where the three actresses’ bodies open a small sensual rip.  The ways out of the labyrinth of abnormality, of the lack of desire, are in the blooming of listening.

Of feeling.

A path amid sounds, the sensual movement of a silent dance, of an ancient song.

Hélène Cixous is famous in the whole world for her dream of a neuter that is not neutral at all. The dream of an androgyny that makes feminine and masculine known as a possible place, as a place to be designed, as a theatre where a faint smile can warm the amazement of a new gaze. This work is also the result of a theatre company that unveils the thirst of life, opens a new theatre belonging to the heart.

Hélène Cixous follows the stages of this work with Nadia Setti, Italian translator of Cixous’s works and professor in Comparative Literatures and Gender Studies at Université Paris VIII. Since more than thirty years, Hélène Cixous is the playwright of Théâtre du Soleil, directed by Arianne Mnouchkine. This performance is developed in cooperation with International Theatre Institute.
